Today the first building at New Karolinska Solna was opened, a six stories, top modern parking garage. This represents the finish of the first phase of the NKS-project. The hospital at New Karolinska Solna is due to be finished and ready to serve patients in 2016, but parking in the area is already made possible through the new garage.
The parking garage has a clear green profile, with 818 parking spaces in total, 650 of which are available as of today. Out of these, 75 parking spaces are equipped with charging possibilities for electric cars. All of the building materials have been environmentally examined, and the maintenance of the building will also keep an environmental-friendly approach.
Gustav Eriksson, Environment Director at Karolinska University Hospital parked the first electric car in the parking garage. Mikael Forss, assisting Hospital Director at Karolinska University Hospital then closed the opening ceremony with a speech.
