IQVIA is a leading global provider of clinical research services, commercial insights and healthcare intelligence to the life sciences and healthcare industries. Their move to Hagastaden this spring facilitates collaboration and provides proximity to research.
– Our 90,000 global employees are dedicated to solving the most complex healthcare challenges for more than 10,000 life sciences and healthcare customers in more than 100 countries. IQVIA has been present in Sweden since 1984 and today counts more 200 employees, says Stefan Ohlsson, VP & General Manager Nordics.
What problems do your products/services solve?
– IQVIA is dedicated to accelerating the development and commercialisation of innovative medical treatments to help improve patient outcomes and population health, he says.
In the realm of clinical development, IQVIA is actively engaged in over 300 ongoing clinical trials in the Nordics, representing approximately 40% of all ongoing clinical trials. This involvement contributes to advancing medical research and bringing new treatments to patients in the Nordics.
– Through commercial insights, IQVIA utilizes rich data assets specific to the Nordic region to deliver valuable insights for our pharma clients and healthcare stakeholders such as governmental bodies. These insights help in ensuring that the right treatments reach the right patients in a timely manner, thereby improving healthcare outcomes and enhancing patient care in Sweden and across the Nordics, says Stefan Ohlsson.
Furthermore, IQVIA offers real-world evidence solutions that demonstrate the value and outcomes of medical treatments through observational retrospective and prospective studies using Nordic real-world data. By leveraging real-world data from the Nordics, IQVIA provides valuable insights that support evidence-based decision-making and contribute to improving patient outcomes and population health in the region.
Tell us why you chose Hagastaden.
– IQVIA has chosen Hagastaden as it offers a vibrant hub for innovation, research, and business. The proximity to research in healthcare and life sciences, along with the exchange with other growth companies, presents an exciting opportunity for IQVIA's operations, he says.
How do you view your role in the innovation ecosystem?
– IQVIA in Sweden plays a crucial role in driving innovation within the healthcare ecosystem by leveraging our relations with both public stakeholders, such as hospitals and universities, and pharma. Through initiatives like the VALO project (Value from Nordic Health Data), IQVIA showcases its commitment to fostering innovation in the Nordic region and contributes to Nordic leadership in the secondary use of health data, says Stefan Ohlsson.
In the context of the triple helix model involving private, public, and academia sectors, IQVIA's involvement in preparing for EHDS legislation, implementing reforms, and sharing best practices helps uphold Nordic leadership in the secondary use of health data. By utilising its expertise in data analytics, project management, and collaboration, IQVIA plays a crucial role in driving innovation within the healthcare ecosystem in Sweden.
What are your plans for the coming year?
– Our strategic plan for the upcoming year is centred around addressing critical healthcare issues, including the slow adoption of innovative drugs, the rise in obesity and chronic diseases, and the escalating concern of Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR). We will continue advancing AI tools for our life sciences clients, enabling them to access rapid and insightful data to streamline decision-making and expedite drug commercialisation efforts. Ultimately, we want to improve the healthcare services and outcomes for patients, and therefore, we work closely with public healthcare to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness in managing the increasing demands on the healthcare system, aiming to deliver greater health outcomes within existing budget constraints, he says.
In a more localised initiative, IQVIA is organising an office and client networking event on August 21 at Hagastaden. This event aims to facilitate interactions with our new co-tenants and promote social connections within the industry.
What is your favourite spot in Hagastaden?
– Forskaren, including the rooftop terrace, where we expect to do a lot of networking! concludes Stefan Ohlsson.
