The Stockholm-Uppsala region is Sweden's largest life science cluster, gathering half of the industry within life science and employs 270,000 people. There are five universities and 21 hospitals with healthcare for close to three million people. Stockholm Science City has compiled facts about life science in the region.
The life science companies in the Stockholm-Uppsala region constitute a strong industry with a turnover of more than SEK 120 billion and accounting for SEK 7.1 billion in investments; seventeen percent of the total investments in the region.There are 21 hospitals in the Stockholm-Uppsala region, three of which are university hospitals. Karolinska University Hospital was recently ranked as the seventh best in the world in Newsweek's annual ranking. Health care in the area accounts for 25 million doctor visits annually and a turnover of SEK 121 billion.
