In this year's version of the Shanghai ranking, which is performed at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Karolinska Institutet is ranked as number 42 and Stockholm University as number 81.
The ranking lists the foremost universities in the world based on criteria such as number of published scientific articles, number of highily cited researchers in 21 disciplines, number of Nobel prize winners and quality of education.
