BIO-PUB – discussion on ecologic and conventional animal production

What is the difference between organic and "regular" eggs? How are Swedish pigs? What will be the impact of the animals in organic food production are fed differently than those in conventional production? At the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at SLU's scientists and experts in fields related to both farm animals, laboratory animals, and sports and pets. During the evening, organic and conventional production of animal food to be in focus. Based on a scientific basis, the facts that are presented to provide a picture of how the different branches of production affects animal health and welfare. During the evening are good opportunities for a discussion researchers/producers/authorities/other stakeholders on this topic.

At BIO-PUB, you will hear Magdalena Jacobsson, professor of swine medicine, about the health of the pigs fed conventional and organic production. Helena Wall, professor of poultry production, explains how feeding and re-housed differ between hens in conventional and organic egg production and how this affects the welfare of hens. Anna Wallenbeck, agronomy doctor will talk about conflicting objectives when it comes to climate and feeding of animals in both organic and conventional production. Moderator Torkel Ekman, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at SLU.
