We got the opportunity to ask a few brief questions to Ylva Hultman, business development manager at Stockholm Business Region Development between her meetings with companies and investors at the international conference BioPartnering Europe in Paris.
Hi Ylva, what are you doing at BioEurope Spring?
- I have had a couple of days with really good meetings with investors as well as companies interested to take a closer look at the Stockholm-Uppsala region for investments. A couple of interesting companies that I have met here are NovoSeed, Sanofi and Sanofi Pasteaur. In addition, I have spoken to a number of interesting VC:s from London.
What is your job at the Stockholm Business Region Development?
- The aim is to attract investors to establishments, financial investments or industrial collaboration in the Stockholm-Uppsala region. In addition, we continuously communicate opportunities for investments and what the region has to offer, both for that target audience and also for international media.
Who owns Stockholm Business Regions Development?
- The city of Stockholm, in collaboration with the Stockholm Business Alliance (SBA), i.e. 53 municipalities in the area around lake Mälaren.
Why is Stockholm-Uppsala a good region for life science investment?
- Innovations is something we are doing well, and there is so much that remains to be discovered! Someone said about the region that "it is like standing at an oilfield - and there is room for more rigs". We have a good system of university hospitals, Karolinska Institutet is an incredibly strong brand, Uppsala University, KTH and Stockholm university are strong academic sites. The teachers exemption makes it easy to close agreements with academics, and we have fantastic patient databases and a critical mass of companies which together forms a functional cluster. Our contribution to the region is that we are trying to bring about economicl growth!
