The Swedish government has appointed Carl-Henrik Heldin new chair for SciLifeLab, starting October 1, 2015. He succeeds Göran Sandberg who resigns on his own request after two years on the post.
Carl-Henrik Heldin is Professor in Molecular Cell Biology at Uppsala University and member of the SciLifeLab Faculty. He obtained his PhD degree in Medical and Physiological Chemistry in 1980 at the University of Uppsala, where he continued to work until 1985 using a position sponsored by the Swedish Cancer Society. In 1986 he became Branch Director of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Uppsala, Sweden, and is since 1992 also professor in Molecular Cell Biology at Uppsala University.
Carl-Henrik Heldin has been or is a member of Scientific Advisory Boards of several institutes and companies, including the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and the German Cancer Center in Heidelberg, the Center for Molecular Medicine in Vienna and the Finnish Institute for Molecular Medicine in Helsinki. He served as Vice President of the European Research Council until 2014 and is the chair of the Board of the Nobel Foundation. He has also been elected chair of the European Molecular Biology Organization. Carl-Henrik Heldin has received many academic honors and awards and his research has been well cited by researchers around the world.
