Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Healthcare and Life Science

Summary
This report has been produced on behalf of Stockholm Science City (SSCi) to map how artificial intelligence (AI) has begun to be applied within the healthcare sector. The report is intended both to provide an overview of the technological advances made in recent years—advances that have led to AI now being used in an increasing number of contexts—and to highlight examples of organizations, both in Sweden and internationally (with a focus on Stockholm), that are actively developing and implementing health-related products based on various forms of AI technologies.
The report is not intended to be exhaustive, but rather to serve as a starting point for SSCi’s strategic work in connecting stakeholders in the AI field across Stockholm. SSCi works to link research, healthcare, business, and urban development in the Stockholm area with the goal of strengthening the conditions for innovative ideas to be developed, realized, and utilized in the region.
Part of this work involves raising awareness of current issues and creating meeting spaces that can lead to cross-sector collaborations. The implementation of AI in health applications often occurs through interdisciplinary collaboration, where many different types of expertise need to come together. SSCi aims to create forums that highlight the potential of AI and bring together actors from diverse backgrounds and competencies to enable fruitful collaborations within the field.
